Alexandra Manasse
(Italy) studied ballet and modern dance in Italy after which she moved to New York to study at Alvin Ailey Dance School and then at Alvin Nikolais Dance Lab. She also studied opera singing in Rome with Maestro Aldo Frattini. Alexandra has worked as a founder member of Folletti in Opera dance company (Italy) together with choreographer Daniele Sterpetti and as a dancer with different choreographers and improvisers in Italy for almost 10 years.
As a singer, she has collaborated with composer Marco Schiavoni in many music projects for dance and theatre, but her main interest regarding voice is always being in relationship with movement study: training the voice inside the deepest geography of the body gives to neural paths, organs, muscles, bones, mind and flesh an amazing kinetic experience which allows the body to achieve total awareness. Focused on this direction, Alexandra joined in 2002 Giuseppina Von Bingen, dance voice company based in Rome and directed by Oretta Bizzarri.
Since 2004 Alexandra lives in Amsterdam where she has involved herself with the city improvisation scene. She’s a member of OT301, alternative cultural center where she works as dance programmer for the Studio Group and set up different dance platforms as DANCE SHORTS (2004-2006) together with Lise Brenner, podium for experimentation with choreographic ideas, and MUSIC DANCE 301, monthly music and dance improvisation platform in collaboration with Katie Duck and Colin McLean. She joined Magpie Music Dance Company. She’s also working with choreographer Tineke Veenhof and developing her own research on voice and dance.
