Isabelle Vigier

Living and working first in Paris, Isabelle Vigier (France,1963) based herself in Amsterdam in 1995, where she combines her activity as a graphic designer and as a visual artist using mainly photography and video.

Besides an on-going collaboration with Magpie, she does art direction and design for various art organisations and Dutch based publishers (Sonic Acts, De Balie among others) and music labels such as Unsounds and Ramboy.

Her visual work has been exhibited in France, Holland, eastern Europe, and the U.S. In 2001, Ocean View (photography - 36 pages black and white) was published by Uitgeverij Knust, Holland. Masako (2003) is a video installation for 2 screens and a space, that was commissioned and premiered in Austin, Texas, at the Creative Research Lab, in September 2003.

Her practice with photography and video include performance related project such as Scape (80″ - 2002, with film maker Joost Rekveld), for a musical composition by Yannis Kyriakides,

Horizon (18″ -photo-video-2001), for Yda (for piano/harpsichord and electronics) by Yannis Kyriakides, or L’astronaute (2004), a live performance with improvisation from prepared material based on a text by spoken-word artist Anne-James Chaton, with Andy Moor (guitar) and Yannis Kyriakides (electronics). She has worked with dance projects, including live projections during improvised performances by Magpie Music Dance Company (in collaboration with Eileen Standley). In collaboration with choreographer Martin Sonderkamp she made Correspondance, (40″- video - dance - 2002).
